Toys we'd give our own children.
There's something quietly wonderful about a toy that lasts. The wooden puzzle still loved after three Christmases. The little stacker your toddler reaches for again at four. We started Montessori Toddlers to find more of those: the kind of toys that earn their place on the shelf, year after year. Every piece is made from materials we trust, and chosen with the same care you'd put into choosing it yourself.
About usMontessori toys are simple by design. Often wooden, often single-purpose, and always something your child leads rather than something that leads them. There are no flashing lights or songs that play themselves, just space for your little one to think, sort, build, and yes, sometimes get gently frustrated. That quiet effort is where real learning happens. Maria Montessori called it work; most of us call it play.
Every product in our shop is one we'd happily welcome into our own home. Before a toy makes it onto the site, we ask a few simple questions:
- Does it hold a toddler's attention for more than ten minutes?
- Will it still be loved in six months?
- Is it made of materials we'd be happy to see chewed on?
- Has it been safety tested?
If the answer to any of these is no, it doesn't make the cut. We'd rather offer a thoughtful collection than fill our shelves with everything.
Wooden toys are wonderfully forgiving, but a little care keeps them looking and feeling their best. A wipe with a damp cloth (no soaking, no dishwasher), a moment to air dry, and a touch of food-grade beeswax or coconut oil once or twice a year is all most pieces ask for. Done well, they'll outlive your toddler's interest in them, ready for the next pair of small hands.
